A Brandon man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment related to an incident Tuesday on West Seminary Street.

Isaiah Webb appeared by video from the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility, where he had been held overnight, for his arraignment in Rutland County Superior Court, Criminal Division.

According to a press release from the Brandon Police Department, police "responded to a report of gun shots, glass breaking, and a male yelling" on Tuesday afternoon and "took the suspect into custody at gunpoint without incident." They said Webb appeared intoxicated and admitted to firing a handgun behind his residence. They later obtained a warrant to search the residence and discovered "numerous loaded handguns, rifles and ammunition."

Judge Cortland Corsones found probable cause for the charge of reckless endangerment and continued bail at $200, the maximum allowed for a misdemeanor. As conditions of release, Webb may not purchase, possess, or consume alcohol or possess firearms or other dangerous or deadly weapons. He must also submit to an evidentiary breath test upon reasonable request from a law enforcement officer and participate in pretrial services, which can help connect defendants with substance-use, mental-health, and other community services while their cases are pending.

In continuing bail, Corsones cited Webb’s four previous failures to appear in court and the seriousness of the charge. Although reckless endangerment is a misdemeanor, he noted that it is a “listed” offense under Vermont law and is considered a serious misdemeanor.

Rutland County Deputy State’s Attorney Kayley Olson said after the hearing that the next step will likely be a court calendar call in October, when the prosecution and defense will discuss how the case should move forward. Rutland County Deputy State’s Attorney Julia Wolchko is assigned to prosecute the case.
