Missing Person, Van Cortland Road

Received a call regarding a male that wanted to report his girlfriend as missing after she broke up with him and left their residence on Van Cortland Road. The woman was later contacted by the investigating officer and was determined to be safe and sound.

Community Policing, Center Street / Park Street

Brandon Police officers and deputies from the Rutland and Addison County Sheriff's Departments performed crowd control for the Town of Brandon July 4th Fireworks in downtown Brandon.

Suspicious Activity, Carver Street

Received a call regarding a three wheeled bicycle that had been left behind the Methodist Church on Carver Street for over a week. The bicycle was located by the responding officer and the serial number was checked to see if it was stolen, which it was later determined to not have been.

Crash - Non-Reportable, W. Seminary Street / River Street

A minor motor vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of West Seminary Street and River Street in which a car drove into a fire hydrant while attempting to park. The hydrant was not damaged and the vehicle sustained minor body damage.

Crash - Non-Reportable, Supermarket Drive

A minor motor vehicle crash was reported in the parking lot of the Hannaford Supermarket. The investigating officer was able to assist both parties in exchanging information.

Community Policing, Downtown Brandon

Brandon Police, along with deputies from the Rutland and Addison County Sheriff's Departments, conducted traffic control for the July 4th parade in Brandon.

July 2

Larceny - from Motor Vehicle, Forest Dale Road

Received a complaint from an individual reporting that someone had stolen two handguns out of his vehicle. At this time it is unknown whether the guns were taken from the complainant's truck in Brandon or possibly Rutland City.

TRO/FRO Service, Mulcahy Drive

Received a Notice of Hearing on an Intent to Pursue for a Relief From Abuse Order service request that needed to be served on an individual residing on Mulcahy Drive.

Fingerprints, Forest Dale Road

Fingerprints completed for education.

Illegal Dumping, Grove Street

Received a complaint regarding someone illegally dumping trash at the Champlain Farms on Grove Street.

Motor Vehicle Complaint, West Seminary Street

An officer on directed patrol for ongoing bicycle complaints in the area of West Seminary Street stopped two juveniles who were observed riding what were believed to be electric bicycles in the area. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the vehicles were actually electric dirt bikes, which are considered motor vehicles by Vermont statute. The two juveniles were advised about the laws regarding riding the dirt bikes and issued a warning regarding the offense(s).

Alarm, Center Street

Officers responded to a commercial burglar alarm on Center Street at the River Pub and Grill. Officers were able to determine that the alarm was false and set off by contractors who were doing work on the building.

Fire Incident, Champlain Street / Hollow Road

Received an after-coverage-hours call regarding a male reporting that his truck broke down on Champlain Street by Hollow Road and that he had been stranded in that area since the previous day. No officers or troopers were available to respond, but Brandon Fire and Brandon Area Rescue responded to the scene and later transported the male to the hospital for medical treatment.

July 1

Traffic Hazard, Pearl Street

Brandon Police responded to the area of the Sanderson Bridge on Pearl Street for a report of a tractor-trailer trying to back up the roadway after having gotten stuck at the bridge. The area was checked by the responding officer, but the truck was gone upon arrival.

Directed Patrol, Center Street / Park Street

Directed foot patrol conducted in the downtown Brandon area for ongoing complaints of kids riding bicycles on sidewalks. One verbal warning was issued to a bicyclist on Center Street.

Motor Vehicle Complaint, Forest Dale Road / Paint Works Road

Officers responded to the area of Brookdale Road and Forest Dale Road for a report of young kids riding dirt bikes around the area. The area was checked, but the juveniles were not located.

Assist - Agency, Town Farm Road

Officers assisted the Brandon Area Rescue Squad with a medical call on Town Farm Road in which a report was received that an elderly female had passed out and was unresponsive. The subject was later found conscious and alert and appeared to be okay.

Alarm, Cobb Hill Road

Brandon Police responded to a residential burglary alarm at a residence on Cobb Hill Road. The alarm company later canceled the need for a police response as contact was made with the homeowner.

Found/Lost Property, 9 1/2 Conant Square

A debit card was found in a gas pump at Dunkin' Donuts and later returned to the owner at the police department.

Traffic Hazard, Union Street / Barlow Avenue

Officers responded to a reported traffic hazard where half of a modular home that was being delivered was blocking both lanes of traffic on Union Street. The half of the modular house ultimately was moved out of the roadway and found its new home on Barlow Avenue.

Welfare Check, Union Street

Officers were dispatched to the area of Union Street for a requested welfare check on an elderly gentleman who appeared to be lost and was wandering around in the extremely hot weather. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the male.

Suspicious Activity, North Street

A woman came into the Brandon Police Department to report that she believes someone attempted to break into her residence on North Street.

June 30

Animal Incident, North Street

Received a call regarding a loose cow in the middle of the roadway in the area of North Street. The owner was identified and was contacted about retrieving his cow from the road.

Disorderly Conduct, Supermarket Drive

Received a call from Hannaford Supermarket regarding a group of protesters outside protesting the business. No Brandon officers were on duty and the Vermont State Police were requested to respond, but later canceled when the protesters left of their own volition.

Violation of Court Order, Triangle Court

Brandon Police opened an investigation into a possible violation of court conditions by an individual residing on Triangle Court.

Assist - Public, Franklin Street

A resident of Franklin Street requested assistance from an officer in returning license plates to the DMV that were attached to a vehicle he no longer owned.

Suspicious Person, Carver Street

Received information that two young girls were approached by a suspicious male on Carver Street. An officer later located the male and determined that he meant no ill intent toward the young girls and just wanted to say hello to them to be friendly.

Citizen Dispute, Mulcahy Drive

An officer spoke with a tenant residing on Mulcahy Drive regarding a verbal altercation she had with her neighbor. The complainant was advised of her options regarding the ongoing issue.

June 29

Larceny - from Building, Franklin Street

A resident on Franklin Street called to report that an unidentified male broke into her garage and stole some items.

Directed Patrol, Center Street / Park Street

Foot patrol in the downtown area for bicycle sidewalk violations due to ongoing complaints.

Suspicious Activity, Rossiter Street

Received a call regarding a female on Rossiter Street who was drinking alcohol and ingesting over-the-counter medication(s) and was not feeling well. EMS was sent to the residence to check on the individual, but the subject refused any assistance.

Trespass, Ballantine Drive

Received a complaint regarding an individual who had violated a No Trespassing Order by going onto a property located on Ballantine Road. The complainant later advised the investigating officer that he did not want to pursue the violation in court and the matter was subsequently closed per request of the victim without any court action being taken.
