Join us at Otter Valley for a very special book discussion as part of Vermont Reads 2026: Charity & Sylvia by Tillie Walden, led by Joanna Tebbs Young,  Vermont Reads facilitator, writer and Director of the Chittenden Public Library! This beautifully illustrated graphic biography tells the remarkable true story of Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake, two women who built a life together in early 19th-century Weybridge, Vermont. Beginning in 1807, their relationship would endure for 44 years as they created a home, a livelihood, and a lasting partnership in a time when openly living as a lesbian couple came with enormous social challenges. Drawing from extensive archival writings, Walden brings Charity and Sylvia’s story vividly to life while offering a fascinating glimpse into Vermont and American history.
