A familiar tradition continued in a new setting as Red Clover’s open mic musicians and beer lovers filled the brewery’s new home at the old firehouse at the base of West Seminary Street in Brandon. While this was not the brewery’s official grand opening — which will take place on Saturday, June 27 from 12 to 7 p.m, with food from Pete Cacace and music by DJ Fancypants — you wouldn’t have known it given the size of the crowd and the effervescent vibe.
Red Clover now encompasses both floors of the venerable brick building next door to Town Hall, which was completed in 1888. The revitalized space is designed to let Andy, Pete and Riker work their magic more efficiently. The vats are now stationed right behind the serving counter, with the taps just to their left, allowing them to change kegs seamlessly without having to make their way through the crowd as they had to do at the previous location.
Upstairs is a wide-open space with couches, a foosball game, tables, and chairs. It’s a great area to enjoy a more intimate setting while still being able to hear the music and hubbub taking place below.
The response among patrons seemed to be unanimous approval of the way the Red Clover boys retrofitted their brewery into the vintage building. One hundred thirty-eight years after it was built, the old firehouse is now set up to douse fires of a different sort.
